Starting But Not Finishing

This week I read Intel was winding down their Bitcoin chip mining business which they started last year. They are streamlining the company, and chasing the Bitcoin market is no longer worth the effort. Intel's decision to wind down their bitcoin chip segment made me think of people's tendency to start things but not finish them.

“Better is the end of a thing than its beginning, and the patient in spirit is better than the proud in spirit.”

Ecclesiastes 7:8

This is one of my favorite verses because it highlights the importance of finishing what we start. This can be a challenge for people who are constantly bombarded with new ideas for projects and business ventures.

I believe two questions can help us eliminate the ideas that are not worth pursuing.

1. Am I willing to commit 10 years to this path?

2. Does this path tap into all my unique gifts?

Am I Willing To Commit 10 Years To This Path?

Many of us suffer from short term thinking. Our pride can trick us into believing that once we start something we will become an overnight success and ride off into the sunset. As we all know, this scenario rarely plays out. The journey usually takes longer than planned and contain more valleys than we originally expected.

By mentally committing to a path for 10 years we force our mind to think long term and narrow our attention to things that are more aligned with who we are.

Does This Path Tap Into All My Unique Gifts?

We all pay a penalty when we don't operate in areas that utilize our gifts. That penalty can manifest in the form of depression or feeling unfulfilled.

Walking in our gifts will improve the quality of our life more than money ever can because we are spiritual beings and material things can never satisfy us long term.

Jesus said;

...“Beware! Guard against every kind of greed. Life is not measured by how much you own.”

‭‭Luke‬ ‭12‬:‭15‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Jesus is highlighting an important principle here. Our quality of life has little to do with the amount of money we make. The quality of our life will depend on our relationship with Jesus, our relationships with people, and how much we walk in the gifts God has given us.

We should find ways to incorporate all the gifts we have into the ventures we decide to pursue. This is how we can create unique products and express all the colors of our rainbow.

In Matthew 25:14-30, the servants who received five and two talents multiplied all they were given. They did not bury anything. God gave us our gifts for a reason. We should seek His wisdom on how to manifest all of them in our life.

I hear people say they don't know what their gift is. I am not sure how accurate this statement is because I don't believe God gives people their gifts and then hide it from them. People know what their gifts are. It is fear telling them that they have no gift to speak of.

Conclusion

Ask the following questions to decide whether it is worth your time pursuing a certain path.

1. Am I willing to commit 10 years to this path?

2. Does this path utilize all my gifts?

We should pass on ideas that do not line up with these two questions.

These questions might sound simple, but there is power in simplicity.

Stay blessed and God willing, I will see you next week.

“God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another. Do you have the gift of speaking? Then speak as though God himself were speaking through you. Do you have the gift of helping others? Do it with all the strength and energy that God supplies. Then everything you do will bring glory to God through Jesus Christ. All glory and power to him forever and ever! Amen.”

‭‭1 Peter‬ ‭4‬:‭10‬-‭11‬ ‭NLT‬‬
